Thursday, June 21, is the Summer Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere. The word solstice comes from the Latin word sol, meaning sun, and sistere, to stand still. This is the time when the sun reaches its highest altitude of the year. Then, it pauses, it stands still, and each following day the sun will be a little lower in the sky.
We're celebrating the pauses in our breath, in our movements, this week in class, the week of the beginning of summer.
