Keeping Your Curves - Weekly Theme

We work to maintain the natural curves in our body during our Bowspring classes, but many times we lose them in our transitions and at other times in our daily lives when we need to maintain them. When we're moving it's good to keep our spine's natural curves to allow more ease of movement and to prevent injury.

This week in class we'll practice keeping our curves through transitions. We'll also practice picking something up off the floor and other common day-to-day movements, all while keeping our natural curves.

Join us to practice this useful skill! Drop-ins are $12.

Use Your Wings - Weekly Theme

Using our hands, arms, and shoulders (what we refer to as our wings in our Bowspring practice), we can

1. fill our ribcage even more by engaging our wings

2. lift our ribcage farther away from our hips creating more extension of the central channel.

Come to class this week and learn how to fully expand your ribcage and how to create more distance between your ribs and your hips using your hands, arms, and shoulders. Engage your wings for a  lighter, more radiant heart and a longer central channel.

Root and Rise - Weekly Theme

Note the strong roots of Melba's Rabbit Foot Fern. These strong roots allow the stems and leaves of the fern to rise up strong toward the sky. In class this week we'll practice rooting down through our our hips, legs, and feet (our roots) and from that rooting down we'll rise up through our central channel to the top of our head.

On the exhale we'll root back and down from the hips and on the inhale we'll rise up from the hips, creating more distance between the hips and the ribcage. This rooting and rising allows the maximum extension of our central channel.

Exhale we root, inhale we rise. Join us!

Bow Your Belly, Open Your Throat - Weekly Theme

Picture
In our Bowspring practice we open and lengthen our belly and throat rather than contracting and shortening them. We bow our belly and neck forward and up. Our waistline narrows and our neck tapers up toward the top of the head. When we do this we have more space in our belly for breath and fluids to move. With our throat open we are freer to sing and say what we need to say.

Fascia, or connective tissue, criss-cross across the belly. As the belly stretches forward toward the head its fibers narrow and cinch strong like a Chinese finger trap. Our bellies are long and strong.

Bow your belly and open your throat with us in class this week.

Thanks to Global Bowspring for the photo.
